Enhancing lifelong coping skills.
As a certified child life specialist, Raye often found herself looking for the right children's picture books to use in her practice with patients and families. She wished for traditional story books that addressed common and unique medical situations with specific characters that patients and families could identify with, that helped answer questions to the unknown, and helped normalize feelings and experiences. Raye looked for children's books that also provided teachable moments for adults (professionals and caregivers) that could change patterns and "norms" for how children are prepared for and supported through challenging situations.
As an author, Raye starts her journey in the common, and everyday, challenges. Her debut children's book focuses on sleep challenges and through this lens, families can process an array of big worries while planting seeds of mindfulness, positivity, confidence, autonomy, and empowerment.
